New Zealand Mens coach Gui Costa put the men through 2 solid session today (Saturday Dec12th) as he reacquainted himself with the side.
Australian based Costa, who is also the Vikings Futsal Director of Coaching flew in on Thursday to start preparations with the side as they prepare for the Vikings Nationals in Sydney Jan 12-15th. Assistant coach and Canterbury mens coach Charlie Cremen works with the side when Costa is in Australia.
"This is a chance for me to have a look at some more players and see them in action at a top event", says Costa. "We are trying to build a squad with great depth for the 2011 Futsal World Cup and this tournament will offer the players a chance to put themselves forward for the final squad".
The World Futsal Association World Cup will be held in Bogota, Columbia May 2011 and the Vikings Nationals (Sydney) and the Vikings NZ National Provincial Championships (Feb 5-7) will will see players contesting for final spots in the World Cup Squad.
Vikings NZ players, Chris Sinclair, Danial Burns, Duncan Reid and Ryan Batty were unavailable for the Sydney trip which has seen Ben Keat (Wellington) Rami Dawwes and Josh Cremen join the Squad. This will be the first outing for Cremen after he spent 6 months in Brazil with professional club, Minas.
Training continues on Sunday with sessions at QE2 Park Stadium 8:30am-10:30 and 12:30-2pm. The next camp will be back in Christchurch Jan 8-10th before flying to Sydney on Jan 11th
